Ganduje as APC Chair is insensitive, unjust, and a political suicide — Salihu Lukman’s e-mail address

Salihu Lukman, vice-chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in North-West, believes it will be insensitive to Party members if Abdullahi Ganduje replaces Abdullahi Adamu as national chairman.

According to Information Nigeria, there are rumors that Ganduje, the immediate-past Governor of Kano State, is being considered for the position of APC National Chairman.

Recall that Adamu and Iyiola Omisore, former national secretaries of the Party, resigned on Monday.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Lukman stated that appointing Ganduje would disrupt the Party’s zoning arrangement.

It would be “political suicide” for him if the chairmanship went to the North-West, where Ganduje is from.

“As of now, only the president and governors’ blocs are active in the negotiations to produce and engage APC leaders.”

“Already, there is speculation among governors that Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is being considered to succeed Sen. Abdullahi Adamu.”

“If this is true, it only demonstrates insensitivity and taking party members for granted.”

“This is without prejudice to Dr. Ganduje’s person.

“This is because such a choice would completely distort the zoning arrangement that informed the current configuration of the national assembly’s leadership.”

“With the speaker of the House of Representatives and the Deputy Senate President both coming from the north-west and north-central, proposing the party’s national chairman move to the north-west from the north-central would be unjust and almost political suicide,” Lukman added.

He went on to say that the role of National Chairman should be kept in the North-Central.

“We must warn our governors that, since the formation of the APC, governors have served as the party’s conscience.”

“Any consideration for such an insensitive and unjust consideration of Dr. Ganduje as APC national chairman must be rejected.”

“If anything, the position of APC national chairman must be retained in North-Central,” he continued.
