Isco has accused Monchi, the former sporting director of Sevilla, of “grabbing him by the neck” during a violent confrontation last year.
After only four months with the La Liga club, the midfielder left in December.
In an astonishing interview, he has finally opened up about his tumultuous relationship with Monchi.
Isco alleges Monchi, who is now Aston Villa’s president of football operations, was the driving force behind his bitter departure.
“I told him he was the biggest liar I’d ever met in the world of football, and he assaulted me,” Isco explained to Marca.
“He came for me, grabbed me by the neck, and we had to be separated.” As you may imagine, I didn’t want to stay there under any conditions after that.
“I couldn’t be comfortable in a club where the sports director attacks me and no one speaks up or apologizes, even though I was sorry because I had a very good relationship with my teammates and the fans treated me wonderfully.”
“Not after all the violence and lies he was spewing. So I cancelled my contract and departed.”
