Maryam Abacha, the late Nigeria’s military Head of State, late General Sani Abacha, has stated that she is used to Nigerians criticizing her late husband, who died on June 8, 1998.
In a recent interview with BBC Hausa, the former first lady stated that she has never missed the Presidential Villa since leaving it after her husband’s death.
“I am used to all the negative things Nigerians have said about my husband, and that is a normal thing with politicians,” she says. People will constantly say different things since we are human. Both good and awful.
Take a look at what’s going on in Kano, and even at the national level. As a result, people will always gossip. But nobody said anything when we were judging. Nobody said anything. That is governance. Every administration has its own pecking order.”she stated
Mrs. Abacha continued, saying
“I miss nothing about the Villa. Because, you know, being the wife of a military man, we’d been all over the place. My father worked as a public servant for most of his life. So, even before marrying Abacha, I was used to traveling over Nigeria.
So, even while working for Abacha, we were constantly relocating. So being at the Villa was just another day in the life for me. Of course, there was the glory of being the wife of the head of state, but there were also difficulties.
Despite the fact that the troops aren’t really politicians, being in the Villa was a part of politics. So, much like every other government, we encountered obstacles. However, I’ve never missed the Villa.” she stated
