A man who allegedly disguised himself as a supervisor was detained for allegedly taking phones during a test at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile Ife, Osun state.
He was discovered to be an extra year student who had some spillover carryovers and was still on campus to finish.
He pretended to be an exam invigilator and entered exam centers, where he began stealing students’ phones.
The students allegedly caught him red-handed and humiliated him with chants of Ole Ole!
A video that posted online shows students closely marking him as school security carried him away after he was arrested.
According to reports, the phony supervisor was subsequently turned over to the authorities.
However, in response to the occurrence, the University’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, declared that the perpetrator was neither a lecturer nor a student at the university.
“The attention of the management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, has been drawn to a viral video in which a male young adult was allegedly involved in stealing phones of some OAU students who were in examination hall,” according to the statement.
“Some claimed he was a lecturer, while others claimed he was an invigilator.”
“To set the record straight, the University’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that the perpetrator was neither a lecturer in any of our Departments nor a student at our University.”
“Actually, he came to the University dressed in a well-tailored suit to disguise his intention, and he was eventually seen stealing phones from the bags of students sitting for their exams.”
“Because of his attire, those who caught him stealing phones assumed he was a lecturer assigned to invigilate the examination.”
“As a result, we want the general public to completely disregard any suggestion that the perpetrator has any connection to the University.”
