The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has given the Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government a two-week deadline to respond to its N200,000 minimum wage proposal.
The union stated this in response to the loss of fuel subsidies and an increase in gasoline prices, which has resulted in a high cost of living in the country.
Remember that the Labor Congress called a strike to force the Federal Government to reverse the 200 percent increase in the price of gasoline at the pump.
Meanwhile, following a series of negotiations with members of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the NLC and TUC suspended the planned strike for Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
Among the requests made by the TUC was the payment of a new minimum salary of N200,000 to compensate for the loss of the gasoline subsidy.
In an interview with The Punch on Wednesday, TUC Secretary General Nuhu Toro stated that the union expected the government to state its position and present a proposal on its demand for a N200,000 minimum salary by June 19.
“The new N200,000 minimum wage that we proposed is part of the demands we made to the government regarding the removal of the subsidy, and we were the ones who gave them a time frame,” he stated.
We set them a deadline of the 19th of this month.
We feel they should be able to present us with something substantive by that time.”
