A Kaduna man seeking divorce was absent from court due to a lack of transportation.
Ali Abubakar, who was hauled before a Shari’a court in Kaduna by his wife, Ajinomo Ohunenene-Ummi, on Wednesday, was not present due to a lack of transportation to the court.
According to reports, Abubakar informed the court messenger, Tajuddeen Saidu, that he would not be present for the hearing because he did not have transportation from Abuja to Kaduna.
According to reports, the petitioner previously indicated, through her counsel, Nafisa Ibrahim, that she wants to redeem herself from the marriage and is willing to pay the N50,500 dowry paid by her husband.
She also asked the court to require the defendant to pay a monthly feeding payment of N20,000.
The judge, Malam Abdulrahman Isiyaku, directed that the court messenger and petitioner call Abubakar so that he may answer to the allegations.
According to the court messenger, Abubakar agreed to the divorce and child custody to the mother, but stated that he would provide N10,000 monthly feeding allowance for his daughter.
He went on to say that Abubakar had agreed to let the complainant utilize the N50,500 dowry as a monthly food allowance for their child for the next five months.
The complainant agreed when the court asked if she agreed with the sum.
Isiyaku annulled the marriage by Khul’i (redemption) and ordered the petitioner to maintain the N50,500 set aside for dowry refund to feed her infant for five months.
The judge also ordered Abubakar to continue caring for the child’s health, clothes, and education until she reached the age of school enrollment.
