EFCC Interrogates Former Minister

A 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of stealing N92,300 from a sex worker.
On Friday, the Nigeria Police Force charged a 53-year-old businessman, King Dauda, with stealing N92,300 from a sex worker in a Kado Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja.
Dauda, of EFAB Global Estate, Life Camp, Abuja, was charged with theft.

In contrast, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Stanley Nwafoaku, stated the court that on May 26, at 9:05 a.m., Ms Bolaji Olufumi of Prosper Road Area 3, Abuja, reported the incident to Life Camp Police Station.

According to Nwafoaku, the defendant invited the complainant to his home at EFAB Estate on May 20 and seized her handbag containing N92,300 after having carnal knowledge of her.

Olufumi’s attempts to collect the purse and money from the defendant, he alleged, were useless.

The offense, according to Nwafoaku, breached Sections 288 of the Penal Code Law.

The Defense Counsel, Charity Nwosu, asked for bail orally, citing Sections 36 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and 158 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015.

If bail was granted, Nwosu pledged the court that the defendant would not break it.

Nwafoaku, on the other hand, did not raise any objections to the defence counsel’s bail request.

Judge Muhammed Wakili granted the defendant bail in the amount of N100,000 with one surety in the same amount.

The guarantor must provide a printout of their Bank Verification Number (BVN), a recent passport photograph, and a valid identification card, all of which must be certified by the court registrar, according to Wakili.

Following that, the judge postponed the hearing until June 15.
