Police Assure: We Will Defend Our Democracy At All Costs

The Nigeria Police Force has stated that it will defend the country’s democracy at all costs.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, gave the assurance in a statement to newsmen on police readiness for the state’s governor-elect’s swearing-in ceremony on May 29, 2023.

He stated that the police will not tolerate any attempt to create tension in order to derail or confuse the governorship inauguration on May 29, 2023.

According to the statement,

“I sternly warn all political actors with subversive agendas to abandon such agendas.”

The Command also issued a warning to touts, describing them as collaborators and foot soldiers who are vulnerable to political radicalization and extremism.

Discard their plans from now on.

“As a result, any person, regardless of political affiliation, who consistently engages in acts that are detrimental to our nation’s democratic and security interests will be dealt with.”

“The Nigeria Police and relevant security agencies are committed to defending our democracy, maintaining internal security order, and ensuring stability, as well as optimally deploying our common unique assets to ensure the successful conduct of the inauguration ceremony.”

CP Gumel urged the public to work with security agencies to ensure a successful handover.
