A woman was sentenced to 21 days in jail for pouring hot water on a 15-year-old girl.

On Friday, a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court ordered Doosur Samuel, a housewife, to sweep its premises for 21 days for pouring hot water on a 15-year-old girl.
The police charged Samuel, of Logo 1, Makurdi, with causing grievous harm, a crime punishable under Section 248 of the Benue penal code laws of 2004.

Samuel entered a guilty plea to the charge.

In his ruling, Magistrate Kelvin Banongo condemned the convict’s actions. He ordered the convict to clean the premises from 10 a.m. to noon, every day except Sundays, from Friday to June 5.

The magistrate also directed the court registrar to contact officials at the Correctional Centre in Makurdi for further information.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Omayi Ujata, told the court that on May 7, 2023, the police received a distress call from Ene Terwase.

According to Ujata, the complainant told police that the convict poured hot water on her daughter, Mimidoo Samuel, without justification and injured her.

According to him, the victim was quickly rushed to the Benue University Teaching Hospital by the police, where she is still being treated.
