Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has urged the state’s 300 Christian pilgrims to the Holy Lands of Israel and Jordan to pray fervently for the state and the incoming administration of Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
The pilgrims were sponsored by the administration of Governor Ugwuanyi.
Governor Ugwuanyi, speaking as the pilgrims were leaving the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, urged them to be respectful while in the Holy Land and to focus on experiencing the teachings of the Bible during and after Jesus Christ’s life.
The Governor stated that his administration has given Enugu State to God since its inception in 2015, revealing that
“In His infinite mercy, God guided the administration, and Enugu remains the most peaceful state in the country to this day.”
Governor Ugwuanyi stated that the 300 Christian pilgrims to Israel and Jordan went there “to give glory to God for His love and mercy over the past eight years,” emphasizing that his administration, as a true Christian, has walked the walk.
The Governor recalled that the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) bestowed the best Pilgrimage Governor Award on him in December 2021 in recognition of his administration’s outstanding performance in enthroning peace in the state and supporting pilgrimages.
Governor Ugwuanyi, who has been praised for his consistency in sponsoring pilgrimages for Enugu residents, also revealed that his administration sponsored 300 pilgrims.
During the December 2022 pilgrimage, I urged them to take all necessary precautions to ensure that all pilgrims returned safely.
“As you embark on this spiritual exercise, we urge you to pray for our dear state and the incoming government,” he emphasized.
Rev. Dr. Yakubu Pam, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), expressed delight at Governor Ugwuanyi’s commitment to the religious exercise since the inception of his administration, adding that the governor’s active involvement in ensuring that Enugu State is the first to start the pilgrimage during each batch is the secret behind the programme’s success story in the country.
The NCPC Executive Secretary described Governor Ugwuanyi as a friend of the commission and thanked him for his enormous contributions. as well as assistance.
Pam also praised the Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Barr. Nestor Ezeme, for his diligence and dedication to duty, describing him as the most hardworking and performing State Executive Secretary of the commission in the country.
The NCPC Executive Secretary advised pilgrims to exercise caution and avoid any actions that might tarnish the country’s or state’s image.
Barr. Ezeme praised Governor Ugwuanyi for his consistent sponsorship of the pilgrimage since assuming office, as well as his great interest in the things of God, revealing that this is the first time one-half of the pilgrims are priests, “and we are proud and happy to have them in our midst.”
The Rev. Emmanuel Edeh, Chairman of the Enugu State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board and State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Godwin Madu, and Dr. Tony Okam were among the dignitaries in attendance.
