A 10-year-old boy is accused of killing his 12-year-old friend by accident with his grandfather’s gun.
The unfortunate incident occurred in the riverside town of Otuan in Bayelsa State’s Southern Ijaw Local Government Area while the deceased’s father and grandfather, who owned the gun, were out of town.
According to an anonymous source who spoke to Vanguard, the deceased’s sister sent her brother to get a cutlass from their father’s room in order to split open a bush mango.
His friend, who helped him get the cutlass, stumbled upon the gun, which was hidden.
When he saw the gun, he grabbed it and pointed it at the deceased.
“The deceased yelled at the When he told his friend to put down the gun, it fired and hit him.
“The fatally injured boy was rushed to a nearby chemist in the community, accompanied by his heartbroken friend, who was wailing when somebody whispered to him to run for his life,” according to the source.
Meanwhile, Asinim Butswat, spokesman for the State Police Command, said when contacted, “It has not been reported to the police, but we will find out if such an incident occurred.”
