Manchester City Football Club’s Owners Purchase a Second Club

After purchasing its 13th club, Manchester City’s owners want to help Brazilian football grow financially.

Bahia is the newest member of the City Football Group (CFG).

The club plays in Brazil’s top national league and has won the championship twice, most recently in 1988.

“In Brazil, football is the number one sport, but it has not developed as it should economically, as it did in Europe 20 years ago,” CFG president Ferran Soriano said.

“The Premier League is what it is today because of how it was structured.” It will be up to us and the other Brazilian clubs to expand the championship in general.

“The potential is enormous. It is the world’s greatest source of talent. The opportunity cannot be missed, and I want to assist.”

“We now embark on a journey as partners to help the club reach its full potential,” Soriano added.

The “journey” would take place, he said, “while remaining true to its community, roots, members, and the energy that makes Bahia and Brazilian football some of the most exciting in the world.”
