“Having Four Wives, 28 Children Is Proof I’ll Succeed As Speaker” – Doguwa

Alhasan Doguwa, the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, said on Wednesday that he has the temperament to lead the 10th Assembly because he has four wives and 28 children.

Doguwa made the statement in response to criticism that he lacks the competence and temperament to succeed the current speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, due to his erratic behavior.

Dogunwa told journalists in Abuja on Wednesday that those attempting to paint him in a negative light had most likely misinterpreted his attitude.

“Even as Chief Whip of the House,” he said.

I did not have a good temperament in the House of Representatives. Those who describe me as a high-level temperamental person have misunderstood Ado Doguwa, the man with four wives and 28 children. I’ve never been divorced. That demonstrates that I have what it takes to succeed as the next Speaker. I will be a carpet on which Nigerians can march or walk.

“I want to believe, as a politician, that every man is a political animal.” And he could be subjected to either disposition. The temperament issue is one of perception. What one person perceives as high temperament, another perceives differently.

“However, for someone like me, who has been in parliament since July 4, 1992,

I have successfully secured the mandate of my people to date. If I hadn’t been pressed for time, I would have brought you my seven different rates of return certificate to demonstrate my track record.”

The lawmaker representing Kano’s Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency is on trial for alleged criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, unlawful possession of a firearm, mischief, and public disturbance.
