On Thursday, Adeyemi and Divine Adegoke, along with their neighbor Deji Ajayi, appeared before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for assaulting Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company officers and three police operatives while on duty.
According to the details of the defendants’ offenses contained in their charge sheet, they committed the acts on March 31, 2023, at No. 93, Ayelaka Area, Dada Estate, Osogbo.
While performing their duties, the defendants allegedly assaulted IBEDC employees Sayo Owaniyi and Adetunji Adetona, as well as Inspectors Ariyo Oyeleke, Muritala Kazeem, and Police Corporal Femi Adisa.
The charge sheet details the offenses committed by the defendants.
“That you, Adegoke Divine, Adegoke Adeyemi, and Ajayi Deji did conspire together to commit felony on the 31st day of March 2023 in the morning at No. 93, Ayelaka Area, Dada Estate, Osogbo in the Osogbo Magisterial District, to wit serious assault, assault, and threat to the life of one Owaniyi Sayo and Adetunji Adet
“That you, Adegoke Divine, Adegoke Adeyemi, and Ajayi Deji, on the same date and place at the aforementioned Magisterial District, seriously assaulted two IBEDC employees, Owaniyi Sayo and Adetunji Adetona.”
Osogbo Branch, as well as Inspector Ariyo Oyeleke, Inspector Muritala Kazeem, and Adisa Femi, committed an offense contrary to section 383 and punishable under section 356 of the criminal code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002 by beating and stoning them while performing their duties.
“That you, Ajayi Deji, attempted to kill one Owaniyi Sayo and Adetunji Adetona with a dog on the same date and place at the aforementioned Magisterial District and thus committed an offence contrary to section 383 and punishable under section 320 of the criminal code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.”
The defendants pled not guilty to the three charges brought against them.
In his decision, the presiding judge Dr Olusegun Ayilara, the magistrate, granted Divine bail in the amount of N200,000 with one surety, while the other two were granted bail in the amount of N500,000 each with two sureties.
