‘We’re Sorry,’ Says British Government to Obi Over Illegal Detention

The British government apologized to Nigerian Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi after immigration officials admitted incorrectly issuing him a detention notice.

Officials had detained Obi for alleged financial crimes only to discover that he was being impersonated.

They also said the unfavorable treatment he received was “completely unacceptable,” and they apologized personally.

“To be honest, the Immigration Official’s action was appalling – and we are sorry,” immigration officials apologized.

“The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, just returned from London, United Kingdom, where he celebrated Easter, has confirmed that he was harassed by London immigration officials and placed in detention but for the spontaneous reaction of Nigerians at Heathrow Airport,” the statement reads in part.
