Apapa, the Acting Chairman of the Labour Party, denies being sponsored by the APC.

Lamidi Bashir Apapa, the Labour Party’s (LP) national vice-chairman (South) and acting chairman of the Party who replaced suspended chairman Julius Abure, has denied being sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to reports, the LP’s National Working Committee (NWC) named Apapa as acting national chairman on Thursday, following an emergency meeting at the Party’s secretariat in Abuja.

In an interview with ThisDay, Apapa, however, shot down speculations that he was being paid to undermine the LP’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his petition at the Election Petition Tribunal.

According to him, he took over the Party’s affairs to avoid a vacuum, and he and other members of the Party

The National Working Committee of the Party was not out to “witch-hunt anyone,” but rather to work in accordance with the provisions of the law. He stated that they did not want to engage in illegal activity.

“If a party’s leader is accused of forgery, it is incumbent on us to do what is necessary to ensure that none of us are regarded as such.” “We’re in charge because we want things done correctly,” he added.

According to Apapa, they “became irritated when an Abuja High Court ruled that Abure, the national secretary, and one other officer who were signatories to the party’s account should not parade themselves as party officials because of the offence of forgery and perjury.”

There was no restriction on that order, and we cannot allow a vacuum. We can’t have a vacuum if he can’t play his part.

“We’re all there to play characters. We have no problem if he is able to resolve his issue and vacate that order. That is his first task,” Apapa added.

He denied any affiliation with the ruling APC.

“It’s completely false. I have no dealings with the APC presidential nominee. I want to tell Nigerians that if they have facts about that case, they should come forward. Peter Obi is our choice. I’ve been a member of the party for over 20 years. “I am an early member of the Labour Party.”

He revealed

He had held several positions in the Party over the years before becoming deputy national chairman and now acting chairman.

“I have never been a member of any other party other than the Labour Party.” I was one of the first officers in the party. Why would I build a house only to demolish it? I’m afraid I can’t. Obi is our candidate, and we are prepared to go to any length to help him and the party.”
