Ify Rhodes-Vivour, the wife of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, has slammed those criticizing her husband for his inability to speak Yoruba.
The LP candidate faced several controversies prior to the 2023 gubernatorial election, including his state of origin, name, and inability to communicate in Yoruba.
Ify described those who opposed her spouse as “bigots” in a tweet, adding that she hopes they keep the same energy when they visit hospitals at home and abroad for treatment.
According to Ify, death stared people in the face during the Lagos gubernatorial election, and some people died as a result.
Ify Elections have consequences, and bigots have no control over how people react once they set a precedent.
Ify Rhodes-Vivour claimed LP won the election because the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not reflect the wishes of peaceful Lagosians.
“This is for the Nigerian bigots who say they can’t vote for a man because he doesn’t speak their language,” she said.
“I hope you keep the same energy by seeking medical attention only from doctors/surgeons who speak your language, both at home and abroad.” You’d better stick to your guns with this nonsense.
“During this election, people were confronted with death. Some people were killed. Bigots were not “restrained” in their prejudice. Elections have ramifications. Once bigots establish a precedent, they cannot be undone.
You have no control over how others react. As a result, drawing a line may be difficult.
“The results do not reflect the majority of peaceful Lagosians’ wishes…results from our agents and situation room indicated we won.”
