Prof. Onje Gye-Wado, a former Deputy Governor of Nassarawa state, has reportedly been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
Gye-Wado, who served as deputy governor of Nassarawa from 1999 to 2003 during the administration of Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu, was kidnapped in the early hours of Friday, April 7.
DSP Ramhan Nansel, the state police command’s spokesperson, confirmed the incident.
“According to information received by the police command, gunmen invaded Gwagi Village in Wamba LGA on Friday, April 7 at about 12:30 a.m., broke into the former Deputy Governor’s residence, and abducted him to an unknown destination.”
“Upon receiving the information, police officers assigned to the Wamba Division moved quickly to the scene.”
“Police arrived on the scene, but the hoodlums had fled with the victim before they arrived,” a police spokesperson said.
Nansel also stated that the state Commissioner of Police had mobilized additional reinforcement, including police tactical teams, the military, vigilance groups, and local hunters, to supplement the ongoing search for the hostage’s safe release. He assured the public that the police would do everything possible to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
