This declaration was made on Friday, October 14 by Dr. Chukwu Emeka, Controller of Seme Command for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
During a press conference in Seme, Lagos State, Emeka stated that the deportees include young Nigerians who claimed they were duped or intentionally departed the country in quest of brighter pastures.
He explained: “Ghana’s Financial and Intelligence Agency accused them of cybercrime, but after conducting a quick inquiry, we found that some of them were recruited into these illegal operations as a result of the get-rich-quick mentality that our kids are exhibiting.
“Some of them are victims because they were led to believe they might leave Nigeria and make money. Unfortunately, in Ghana, they don’t actually get what they asked for.
Further inquiry also revealed that the majority of them departed the nation via smuggling routes or the sea to other West African nations.
Emeka further said that it is shameful to see young Nigerians getting involved in some unholy activities when they were supposed to be developing their talents for the future. He urged Nigerians to always travel with valid documents and to live and conduct their businesses in accordance with the law of the country they had traveled to.
